Meet our President, Greg Nace
Greg Nace joined the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden as President in Spring, 2010. Prior to that, he was Associate Director of the historic Sarah P. Duke Gardens, a premier public garden at the Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He was active in planning and advancing the major themes of the Duke Gardens, namely, education, accreditation, conservation, sustainability and historic preservation. Greg was instrumental in writing the strategic plan and vision statement and incorporated “best management practices”. Greg has successful financial ability, having won support from individuals, corporations, community foundations as well as federal, state and local governmental agencies. In implementation of the Duke Gardens, Greg worked with the landscape design firm of Marshall, Tyler and Rausch (MTR), who are the designers of the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden.
Greg’s education includes two master’s degrees – one as a DuPont fellow in Public Garden Administration from the Longwood Program; and the other in Duke’s Environmental Leadership Program, which is designed for environmental business and community leaders. He also earned two university certificates – one in Museum Studies (University of Delaware), and another in Non-Profit Management (Duke University).
He is overseeing the reclamation of our garden site, now underway to remove abandoned coal mines and polluted water; implementing the entrance garden; and building the necessary support to open this regional amenity.
Greg and his wife live in Pittsburgh.
